The installation took place following a congregational Shabbat dinner. Extended Shabbat services followed with the installation ceremony taking place towards the middle of the two-hour long event.

Rabbi Daniel Sherman was installed by his father Emeritus Rabbi Charles Sherman, formerly of Temple Israel of Tulsa Oklahoma. The elder rabbi was senior rabbi there for 37 years before his retirement in 2013.

Rabbi Charles Sherman and Emeritus Rabbi Ed Paul Cohn both spoke at the installation before Rabbi Daniel Sherman added remarks of his own.

All Reform temples in New Orleans and Metairie elected to hold Friday night services there as a sign of unity. In addition, Congregation Gates of Prayer’s Rabbi David Gerber and Touro Synagogue’s Rabbi Katie Bauman also participated at the end of the worship service.

Following services, the congregation hosted an Oneg dessert reception.

The weekend continued on Saturday morning with Torah study, services and a Kiddush .
