Reform-Conservative-Orthodox joint programming kicks off tonight

Rabbi Robert Loewy of Congregation Gates of Prayer will join forces with Rabbi Ethan Linden of Shir Chadash Conservative Synagogue and Rabbi Uri Topolosky of Congregation Beth Israel, the only Modern Orthodox synagogue in Metairie, in order to present a series on “Holocaust Lessons.” The joint continuing education series begins tonight, January 16, with Gates of Prayer welcoming attendees at 7:30 p.m at the Reform temple located at 4000 West Esplanade Avenue. At the session the question “Where Was God?” will be posed and a number of philosophical approaches will be examined which have emerged since the Holocaust. Light refreshments will be served.

Topolosky and Loewy follow up next Wednesday, January 23, with “Jewish Law in Midst of the Darkness.” The discussion to be held at Congregation Beth Israel’s new sanctuary at 4004 West Esplanade Avenue will deal with various responsa and Jewish texts concerning the Holocaust. Again, light refreshments will be served.

The final installment will be on the following Wednesday night, January 30, as Linden and Loewy lead the discussion on “The Next Generations” at Shir Chadash, 3737 West Esplanade Avenue. Grown children of Holocaust survivors are expected to relate their experiences growing up after the Shoah. That talk also begins at 7:30 p.m.
