Sylvia Bronfin Emerman services set for Thursday, Oct. 28

SYLVIA BRONFIN EMERMAN, an office worker and community volunteer, died on Monday, Oct. 25. She was 96.


A New Orleans native, she graduated from Henry Allen High School and was married in 1945 to Joel Emerman, a native of Canton, Ohio. 

Mrs. Emerman enjoyed a career in office administration working at the Conservative Congregation and Congregation Chevra Thilim. She also was a volunteer worker for the Greater New Orleans Section of the National  Council of Jewish Women. An Uptown resident, she was a lifetime member of Congregation Gates of Prayer when it was located along Napoleon Avenue and stayed with the congregation when they  moved out to suburban Metairie on West Esplanade Avenue.

During her free time, she enjoyed bowling, playing Mahjong and traveling around the world. In recent years, she lived in an assisted living community home.

Emerman is survived by her children Donna Emerman Singer (Ronald) of Round Rock, Texas and Marsha Emerman Piacun (Pasko) and Alan Emerman (Debra); seven grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Graveside services were held on Thursday, October 28, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. in Gates of Prayer Cemetery, 1411 Joseph Street, New Orleans. Rabbi David Gerber officiated.

Donations are suggested in her memory to Congregation Gates of Prayer, 4000 W. Esplanade Ave., Metairie LA 70002. Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
