Teacher and religious school instructor Gayle Zoller Brignac service to be held Mon.
GAYLE ZOLLER BRIGNAC, a teacher for more than three decades with the Jefferson Parish School System, a native and a lifelong resident of the city, died peacefully at Tulane Medical Center on April 13, 2022. She was 74.
Brignac graduated from Fortier High School and the University of Arizona, where she studied education. She particularly enjoyed teaching children with special needs. She kept in contact with many of her students who viewed her as another parent.
She was a lifelong member of Gates of Prayer Synagogue, where she taught Sunday School and was an active member of the Sisterhood.
She served as Queen of Mecca in the mid-1970’s with her father, “Irv” Zoller, who was captain. Everyone who knew her, knew how much she loved Mardi Gras. Every carnival season, she could be found on St. Charles Avenue, where she refused to leave until every last float and band had passed.
More than anything, she loved life and loved sharing her life with others. She suffered extensive illnesses for years and beat the odds each time. She taught her family and friends to appreciate life and to love every minute – regardless of her physical condition.
She is survived by her daughters, Betsy Luscy (Kurt) and Becky LeBlanc (Fred); her sister Anne Kiefer and three grandsons.
A visitation will be held at Garden of Memories Funeral Home, 4900 Airline Drive, in Metairie on Monday, April 18, 2022 at 12:30 p.m., followed by a service celebrating her life at 1:30 p.m.
