Virtual Mask-erade for Hadassah today

Mexican-Canadian singer-songwriter Monika Schwartzman headlines today’s Hadassah Virtual Mask-erade at 4 p.m., an attempt to raise needed funds via Zoom during the current pandemic.

The entire Jewish community in invited to participate safely in the novel fundraiser in the event  via Zoom. For those wishing to gain access to the virtual event, contact event co-chair Charisse Sands.

The other co-chair, Marcela Totah, adds that the event will include a mask contest with prizes given for the funniest and fanciest masks. Children under 12 will also be able to compete. Plans are for “door prizes” too.  To enter the mask contest, submit a photo of yourself modeling your mask to Greater New Orleans Hadassah Chapter president Briann Shear.

Singer/songleader Schwartzman will provide entertainment for the attendees. Schwartzman’s easy going style in steeped in the music of her native Mexico, but also informed by her experiences in Canada, where she now lives. A devotee of music developed at a very early age in her life, Schwartzman has performed in many different venues in Canada and Mexico, including various festivals such as Carnaval del Sol and Make Music Vancouver.

“I invite everyone to join me in my happy place,” Schwartzman said. “There is always light and always joy in every adventure, miracle, hard moment and in life itself.”

Schwartzman considers her work on the Mexican TV Series “Bienes Raisces” (“Real Estate”) as one of her career highlights. She also has hosted two radio shows in Mexico and was part of the cast of the musical “Spring Awakening” in Mexico City. Her talent is evident on her EP “Sweet Love” as well as in  video for her song “My Light and Joy.”

All tax-deductible contributions of $18 and above,  all ofwhich support Hadassah’s work in the U.S. and Israel, will allow participation in the Mask-erade. j
