Yom Ha’Shoah virtual event airs tonight; registration required

The Greater New Orleans Jewish community is invited to join tonight, April 8, in a virtual memorial to Yom Ha’Shoah, also known as Holocaust Remembrance Day, at 6:30 p.m.

The centerpiece of the program administered by the New Orleans Holocaust Memorial Committee is to honor those Holocaust survivors who settled in New Orleans as well as their progeny.

The link to register for the program is required. The link can be found here.

A procession of survivors, family members and Jewish religious leaders will be featured in several segments that have been filmed earlier at the Uptown JCC.

Rabbi Judith Siegel of Temple Judea of Coral Gables will introduce the story of David Schaecter, who was a member of the Miami Jewish community following his escape from Auschwitz during World War II.  His story is told in the documentary “A Call To Remember.”

In addition to local support, the program is also made possible by the Israel Engagement Fund, a program of the Jewish Community Centers Association and by several local generous donors.
