YouTube removes Nation of Islam channel from its site
YouTube has removed the Nation of Islam’s (NOI) channel over its site, according to information from the anti-Semitic watchguard group, the Institute for the Study of Antisemitism and Global Policy (ISGAP).
According to the release from ISGAP, which applauded the action, “YouTube cited its policies against hate speech in explaining this landmark decision. According to the Southern Poverty Law Center and the American Defamation League, the Nation of Islam and Louis Farrakhan in particular, are among the most active and dangerous purveyors of antisemitism in the United States.”
Among the many Farrakhan instances of Black Muslim hate speech noted was when he referred to Jews as “fleas.” He has actively promoted conspiracy theories on the influence of Jews in banking and media and indicated false reports of worldwide Jewish intent to repress Blacks.
“In a time of increased fragmentation, extremism, racism, and xenophobia from the radical left and right, as well as in mainstream discourse, this decision by YouTube to stop the spread of hate and incitement is encouraging,” the release concluded.
