Dietician, artist Bettie Florence Stovall Rosenbaum dies at 87

BETTIE FLORENCE STOVALL ROSENBAUM, a dietician, who in her later years became known as an artist specializing in enameling, died on Monday, July 7 in Atlanta, GA after a long illness. She was 87.

She was pre-deceased by her husband of many years, Dr. Percy Rosenbaum of blessed memory. Rosenbaum is survived by five daughters Judy Rosenbaum Juran of Jerusalem, Israel; Mindy Rosenbaum Parnes (Mitchell) of Lakewood, CO.; Lisa Rosenbaum of Atlanta, GA.; Tana Rosenbaum Coman (René) and Linda Rosenbaum Hart (Scott); and seven grandchildren.

Rosenbaum graduated from the University of Montevallo in Alabama where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in home economics with a minor in fine arts.  She then interned in dietetics at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, MD.  Later, she became the head dietician at Charity Hospital in New Orleans and met her husband when he gave a lecture as a physician to the hospital dieticians.

A wonderful cook and a great storyteller, Rosenbaum took courses at the Uptown Jewish Community Center in copper enameling, and enjoyed it so much she bought a kiln. Beginning in the late 1970s and early 1980s, she helped run Enamellers Incorporated, with fellow artists Jullie Yoedicke, Gerri Puyau, and JoAnn Ballanco on Hillary Street. She exhibited enamels at Carol Robinson Gallery and won several awards in American Craft Council competitions.

A lay-led graveside service was conducted at Chevra Thilim Cemetery, 5000 Iberville St. on Thursday, July 10, 2014 at 10:00 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested to Shir Chadash Conservative Congregation, 3737 W. Esplanade Ave., Metairie, LA. 70002 or the charity of your choice. Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home was in charge of funeral arrangements.
