Debbie Pesses, the Jewish Enrichment Director at the Jewish Community Center and the head of the Florence Melton Adult Mini-School, has announced two new classes: one intended for parents and elementary school children and the other geared towards graduate students of the Melton courses.
The Foundations course has been developed in conjunction with the PJ Library. The two five-week courses begin February 17 and April 7, respectively. Parents and children have their own classes in which they explore Jewish values reinforced by special reading material for children three years of age and above. The instructor for the course is Andy Adelman and each class is held on Sunday mornings at 9:30 a.m with locations alternating between the Uptown and Metairie JCCs. Babysitters will be provided for children under three. The cost for each five-week course is $175.
A ten-week graduate level course titled “Jews in America – Insiders and Outsiders” is set to kick off on Tuesday evenings at 7:30 p.m., beginning on February 19. The instructor is Rabbi Allen Freehling and will be taught at the Metairie Goldring/Woldenberg Campus. The cost of the course will be $200 and it will span the 350 years of Jewish involvement in America.
