Beryl R. Gurievsky is laid to rest

BERYL RUSAKOF GURIEVSKY, a homemaker, passed away on November 3, 2019. 

She was happy to work as a volunteer, often eschewing the spotlight. She derived satisfaction from doing a good job and contributing to a worthwhile cause.

Gurievsky graduated from Francis T. Nichols High School before attending Newcomb College.

While she did have an active role in a business, she was active in various Parent Teacher Associations and was a room mother for all of her four children. She was involved with her synagogue Sisterhood and was a longtime member of the Greater New Orleans Chapter of Hadassah. She served as treasurer for her high school senior class, the elementary school PTA as well as for Hadassah.

She was survived her husband of more than 69 years, Joseph “Joe” Gurievsky, her, children Evelynn Freed (Michael), Mark Gurievsky, Barry Gurievsky (Darlene) and David Gurievsky (Lisa); a brother-in-law Dr. Harry Garvin; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. .

Rabbi Deborah Silver officiated over funeral services on Tuesday, November 5, 2019,  at Tharp-Sontheimer-Tharp Funeral Home of Metairie, 1600 N. Causeway Blvd. Burilal followed immediately in I Chevra Thilim Memorial Park Cemetery.
