“The Women’s Balcony,” an Israeli film that garnered great praise when it was first released in Israel in 2016 and in this country last year, is a comedy that will be the first film in the Cathy and Morris Bart Jewish Cultural Arts Series at the Uptown JCC. The film will be seen this Mon., Oct. 23, at 7:00 p.m. in the Mintz Auditorium and is free and open to the public.

The film relates an accident that occurs during a bar mitzvah at an Orthodox synagogue in Jerusalem, which causes problems for the observant congregation. As a result a schism occurs and it is to the charismatic hero, young Rabbi David, to try to mend the mechitzah (division) that results.

The film received five Ophir Award nominations, Israel’s Oscars, including two for Best Supporting Actor and Best Supporting Actress.
