Shirely Aronoff rites held
SHIRLEY ARONOFF, a resident of New Orleans, died on Tuesday, September 18, 2018. She was 86.
Aronoff was an authority on antiques and collectibles for much of her life. At the time of her passing, she was a resident of the Poydras Home.
Aronoff worked with engineer Tommy Sands as a member of his administrative staff. A native of Atlanta, she never married and fell in love with New Orleans. She worked on a number of projects dealing with environmental issues at Tulane University and joined Temple Sinai in 1976. She became a member of the synagogue’s administrative staff in the late 1970s and returned to work there as an early member of Rabbi Ed Paul Cohn’s staff.
Aronoff lived for a time in the French Quarter and the Irish Channel. Following the devastation from Hurricane Katrina, she relocated to Atlanta to live there for five years. Missing New Orleans, though, she returned in 2010.
She is survived by a nephew, Terry Aronoff of Israel and a niece, Debbie Aronoff, and a sister-in-law, Marlene Aronoff, both of Atlanta.
Her passions included antiques, reading and the pursuit of a good hamburger. Shirley was a member of Temple Sinai. A graveside service was held at Hebrew Rest Mausoleum. Rabbi Matthew Reimer officiated. Arrangements were by Tharp-Sontheimer-Tharp, 1600 N. Causeway Blvd. Information 504-835-2341.
