Retiree Sonia P. Washofsky private burial today

SONIA PACKMAN WASHOFSKY, died at her Metairie residence on Wednesday, March 25, 2020. She was 88.

Born in New York, she moved to the Greater New Orleans area and was a longtime resident. Along with her husband, she owned several small businesses, including several shoe stores and a tax preparation service.

A consummate storyteller, she was beloved by family and friends and enjoyed connecting with her Jewish community. A member of Congregation Gates of Prayer, she also attended the Florence Melton Adult Mini-School.

Predeceased by her husband of many years, Ralph M. Washofsky, in 2011, she is survived by her daughter Lynne Wasserman (Dr. Michael) and son Rabbi Mark Washofsky (Robin Kosberg) of Dallas, three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Private family graveside services were held on Friday, March 27 at Gates of Prayer Cemetery on Joseph Street with Rabbi David Gerber officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested to Congregation Gates of Prayer, 4000 W. Esplanade Ave., Metairie, LA 70002.
