Mechanical, electrical engineer Robert Rappaport to be laid to rest Friday

ROBERT RAPPAPORT, a mechanical and electrical engineer, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, December 9, 2025 following a short illness. He was 93.

He grew up in Philadelphia and graduated from Central High School before serving as an officer in the US Navy. He also attended the University of Pennsylvania, Town School where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering. Rappaport also attended the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and earned a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering.

He enjoyed a long career in mechanical and electrical engineering, working on industrial projects all around the city of New Orleans and in Washington, D.C. and Houston. He finished his career in Bridge City, managing his own company, serving the electrical needs of businesses on the West Bank in New Orleans.

He was proceeded in death by his beloved wife, Ann Wilmot Gauthier Rappaport and his stepdaughter, Mimi Guthier.. He is survived by his daughters, Carrie R. Murtha and Jessica Rappaport; his stepchildren: Julie Gauthier (Bill) and her husband, Bill; David Gauthier (Noel) ; son-in-law Laurent LaBien; a sister, Susan Rappaport Marwil; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held tomorrow  in Metairie Cemetery, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd.. The service to be officiated by Rabbi David Cohen-Henriquez of Shir Chadash Conservative Congregation is scheduled for Friday, December 12 at a D10:00 a.m.
