FREDA DOROTHY SILVERMAN KATZ, the matriarch of a well-known New Orleans family, died on Mon., September 7, 2026,  in Boulder, Colorado at the home of her son, Paul Katz.  A lifelong New Orleanian, she was 105 years old.

 

She was predeceased by her husband Julius Katz in 1972 and by her daughter Shelly Katz in 2021. She is survived by Paul and her other children Myron Katz (Sharon), and Jaclyn Katz of Bozeman, Montana; four grandchildren, three great-granchildren and a sister-in-law, Mirta Katz Angel (Jose).

 

A private funeral service will be held in Colorado. Shiva will be held locally at 302 Walnut Street (please use the front entrance) after Rosh Hashanah concludes, beginning Tues., Sept. 15, through Thurs., Sept. 17, from 2 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., and on Fri., Sept. 18, from 12 noon to 4 p.m., with Kaddish recited in the evenings (except on Fri.).
