The Alfred Uhry play, which is based on the experiences of his own Jewish grandmother, opened off-Broadway and was later transformed into a feature motion picture starring Jessica Tandy as Daisy Wertham and Morgan Freeman as her chauffeur Hoke.
This production, directed by artistic director Perry Martin, features Janet Shea as the elderly “Miss Daisy,” who could no longer driver herself; Lance Nicholls, star of HBO’s “Treme” and other film roles as her hired chauffeur; and film actor and radio talk host John “Spud” McConnell as her son Boolie.
Much of the play takes place in the period of unrest during the Civil Rights era and just beyond that time. It touches on the bombing of an Atlanta Reform temple as a means of retribution by intolerant and prejudiced people living there.
The theater is located at 101 Main Street in Lockport. Online tickets are $23 each and are available by clicking here.
