Beatles expert Bruce Spizer to speak on ‘A Hard Day’s Night’ film at Limmudfest

Bruce Spizer, an expert on The Beatles, who has appeared at conventions worldwide and written 17 books on the musical group, will be featured at one of the most anticipated sessions for this year’s Limmudfest being held next weekend at the Uptown Jewish Community Center on Sunday, March 8.

Spizer, a native New Orleanian and a tax attorney by day, has seerved as a consultant for Capitol Records, the Universal Music Group and Apple Corps, Ltd., the commercial enterprise and label founded by The Beatles before their breakup.
Spizer will be speaking on the 1964 black and white film “A Hard Day’s Night,” the very first feature film to star the Fab Four. Directed by Richard Lester, it is considered a masterpiece of cinema that showcased their musical talent in addition to focusing on their comedic skills.
Released in August of 1964, the film was shown on local screens just prior to the appearance of The Beatles at City Park Stadium on September 16, a date that coincided with Yom Kippur.
“I am looking forward to once again being a part of Limmud. I will be giving one of my favorite Beatles presentations incorporating wonderful video clips not only from ‘A Hard Day’s Night,’ but also early rock films such as ‘The Girl Can’t Help It’ and Elvis’ “King Creole,” which was filmed in New Orleans.”
Limmud, the big tent of Jewish learning, has been a part of the New Orleans Jewish community since 2010 and, with the exception of the COVID pandemic, has been held here every two years.
Two other sessions include a talk on kabbalah by Rabbi David Cohen-Henriquez titled “A Beginner’s Guide to Jewish Mysticism: The Sefirot” and an examination of reproductive rights as found in Jewish texts and expounded upon by Dr. Carol Roberts Gerson, a bioethicist and surgeon.
