Cathy Laufer is buried in Baton Rouge
CATHY ELLEN LAUFER, a former medical malpractice adjuster and elementary school teacher, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 19, 2019 surrounded by loved ones, family and friends. She was 63.
A native of New Orleans and a longtime resident of Baton Rouge, she received her bachelor’s degree and teaching certificate through LSU. After graduation, she taught fifth grade for several years.
She eventually left education to pursue business and worked for many years with the St. Paul Insurance Company.
Laufer fought a valiant 31-year battle against multiple sclerosis, not letting her disease keep her from enjoying an active and fully-realized life. The last decade was more difficult, but her spirit and zest for life kept her buoyed in the home she loved in the Spanish Town district of Baton Rouge.
Cathy is survived by her partner of 22 years, Kay Lindsey; her parents, Barbara and Beryl Laufer; her son Shawn Tucker (Jennifer) of Prairieville, LA.; her two brothers Jeffrey (Elizabeth) and Michael (Audrey) of New York and one granddaughter.
A funeral service was held at Rabenhorst Funeral Home in Baton Rouge on Sunday, July 21, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. Burial followed at the nearby Jewish Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are requested to the Capital Area Animal Welfare Society (caaws.org).
