CCJN is nominated again for Press Club of New Orleans Awards

The Crescent City Jewish News is under consideration again for two major categories at the upcoming Press Club of New Orleans annual Awards for Excellence in Journalism.

Press Club president Doug Mouton made the announcements on Wednesday night at a party designed to create interest in the annual gala that will take place on July 18 at The Cannery event space in Mid City.

CCJN editor Alan Smason was selected as a finalist in the two categories of Breaking News and Best Editorial. Both items were written during and shortly after  the New Year’s Day terrorist incident on Bourbon Street on January 1, 2025.

Under Breaking News, Smason was selected for the January 2, 2025 story “FBI, ATF and Officials Proclaim Jabbar was Acting Alone; City Reopens Bourbon Street, Hosts Super Bowl.”

Under Best Editorial, the CCJN was also nominated for the January 1, 2025 opinion piece “When the Unthinkable Becomes Reality.”

Both awards are considered among the top categories under the major heading of Print articles.
