Don’t Miss LimmudFest: March 18 – 20, 2016

Limmud, a weekend festival of Big Tent Jewish learning, arts, culture, and spirituality, is coming to New Orleans March 18-20, 2016.  Registration is still open for Limmud New Orleans 2016.

Limmudfest includes a Kabbalat Shabbat and dinner at Congregation Gates of Prayer on Friday, March 18. On Saturday, March 19, there will be a variety of Shabbat services, learning, Havdalah, and fun.  The learning continues on Sunday, March 20 at the Lavin-Bernick Center on Tulane University’s campus

LimmudFest 2016 is led by Co-Chairs Lynne Wasserman and Ann Zivitz Kientz and Vice Chair Jakob Rosenzweig.  Steering Committee members are Aleeza Adelman, Brenda Brasher, Margery Brown, Gail Chalew, Jack Gross, Barbara Kaplinsky, Suzy Lazarus, Matthew Rosenthal, Judy Roth, Bob Simon and Roselle Ungar.  Other volunteers are Sue Daube, Cathy Glaser, Rabbi David Polsky, Karen Remer and Lonnie Schaffer.

According the event organizers, there are numerous reasons to attend this exciting weekend of learning:

• LimmudFest offers programming for people of all ages and levels of experience with Jewish learning.
• During the weekend, there will be more than 80 sessions, providing participants with the broadest variety of opportunities to learn and explore Jewish culture, arts, practice, text, beliefs, and philosophy from traditional to progressive and everything in between.
• There will be great children’s programming.
• All food at LimmudFest will be kosher under strict rabbinical supervision, and all meals and snacks are included in the registration fee.
• Home hospitality will be provided for those who are Shomer Shabbat and for out-of-towners.
• Local, national and international speakers will tackle specific topics ranging from Southern Jewish Life, Israel, Text & Thought, History, Art & Culture, Social Justice, Family, Contemporary Jewish Life, Spirituality, and Food.

Three of the many featured speakers include Katherine Romanow is a Jewish food historian from Montreal; Danny Siegel has been called the “Mitzvah Maniac” and “The Pied Piper of Tzedakah” and, Larry Brook, editor of Southern Jewish Life.
