Insurance agent, avid golfer David M. Silverman’s graveside service set for Monday

DAVID MARTIN SILVERMAN, a former resident of Bogalusa and New Orleans who lived much of his adult life in Biloxi, Mississippi, died on June 11 in Biloxi following complications from a fall. He was 68.

DAVID M. SILVERMAN

A native of New Orleans, he moved with his family to live in Bogalusa, a place that would forever hold a special place in his heart. Some of his happiest memories were made there, growing up among lifelong friends, playing sports, and enjoying the close-knit community that helped shape the man he became.

A proud Bogalusa High School Lumberjack, David excelled on the football field, but it was at the Bogalusa Country Club where he discovered his lifelong passion for golf. The game became one of his greatest joys, leading him to participate in tournaments
throughout the South and creating friendships and memories that lasted a lifetime.

While living in South Florida, David was fortunate to have a close friend in the golf cart industry who helped make possible one of his most treasured experiences — visiting Augusta, Georgia, and attending The Masters – a dream for any golf enthusiast. Silverman remained deeply connected to Bogalusa, which he regarded as his hometown, throughout his life.

One of his fondest memories was returning for his high school reunion during the Bogalusa Blues & Heritage Festival, where he reconnected with classmates and lifelong friends.

While golf was one of Silverman’s passions, football was another. A devoted fan of both the New Orleans Saints and LSU Tigers, his enthusiasm for the game was unmatched. He proudly attended the Saints’ inaugural game at Tulane Stadium and remained a loyal supporter of his teams throughout his life.

He possessed an extraordinary gift for storytelling and never met a “stranger;” he had an uncanny ability to make people feel like old friends within moments of meeting them. His quick wit, infectious laughter, and endless collection of stories brought joy to everyone around him. In recent years, he earned the affectionate nickname “Stitches,” because he could leave a room full of people laughing until their sides hurt.

After gaining valuable sales experience working with family at Goldberg’s on Decatur Street and later at Rubenstein’s All American Jeans, he followed his entrepreneurial spirit and moved to Deerfield Beach, Florida. There, he built a successful career as an
insurance agent with Bankers Life and Casualty while enjoying year-round opportunities to pursue his beloved game of golf. Upon returning to New Orleans, he continued his career in sales with Newton & Associates.

Known for his remarkable memory, generous heart, and unwavering kindness, Silverman was always willing to help others and never hesitated to lend a hand when needed. Even in death, his generosity continued through his selfless decision to become an organ donor, giving the gift of life to others.

Throughout his life, he shared a special bond with animals and was rarely without a cherished four-legged companion. He found great joy in rescuing and caring for animals in need. However, his greatest blessing was his love of family and friends.

He is survived by his sisters Lisa Silverman and Sue Singer (Harold).

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, June 22, 2026, at Hebrew Rest Cemetery No. 3, 2100 Pelopidas Street. Family and
friends are invited to attend and dress comfortably. Services will be conducted by Senior Rabbi Daniel Sherman of Temple Sinai. Arrangements are under the direction of Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home.
