Owner of Rug and Carpet Center, Harrel Zivitz, is laid to rest

HARREL A. ZIVITZ,  asuccessful businessman and owner of Rug and Carpet Center, passed away peacefully at his Metairie home on  Friday, October 10, 2025. He was 87.

A native of Mobile, AL, he was a true southern gentleman, both kind and dapper and moved to Metairie in 1965. He will be remembered as a devoted husband, loving father, and proud grandfather and great grandfather.

Zivitz was a member of Temple Sinai, owner of Rug and Carpet Center, and a long time, original Saints ticket holder. He enjoyed many years of socializing with friends from Temple Sinai and Bissonet Maned Downs Country Club. He was a big fan of Frank Sinatra, John Wayne, Turner Classic Movies, Bear Bryant, and all things Alabama football.

He was preceded in death by the love of his life, Betty, to whom he was married 54 years and by his oldest, beloved daughter, Ann Kimball Kientz in 2022.

He is survived by his loving daughters Carol Zivitz Lange (Joey) and Lois Morgan-Vinson (Keith), six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

A graveside service was held at Hebrew Rest Cemetery on Monday, October 13, 2025. Those wishing to honor Zivitz may consider donating to Temple Sinai or a charity of your choice.
