Succah torn apart in vandalism at Kansas State University

(JTA) — A succah erected on the campus of Kansas State University was vandalized and destroyed.

The succah erected near the main dining hall on the Manhattan campus was carried away from its place on Friday night and broken apart, the Mercury newspaper reported Sunday. The pieces were left around the car of organizer Glen Buickerood, a graduate student who works on diversity initiatives at the school.

The campus Hillel had purchased the succah.

Gregory Newmark, a co-adviser for Hillel and an assistant professor at Kansas State, told the newspaper that he thought the vandalism was an anti-Semitic act.

“This was meant to be a place where everyone was welcome, and someone just ripped it down,” he said.

There are no suspects in the case.

In April, an anti-Semitic poster was hung on the Kansas State campus on Holocaust Remembrance Day.
