Edwin Zerlin, 93, laid to rest

EDWARD ZERLIN, a native of New Orleans, died on Sunday, October 16, at the age of 93.

Zerlin was a lifelong member of Congregation Gates of Prayer, and was a graduate of Samuel J. Peters High School.

During  World War II, he served in the United States Coast Guard.

He is survived by his wife Charlotte Opatowsky Zerlin, children Michael Zerlin (Rachel Krimkowitz), Eileen Zerlin Fisher (Harold) and Ann Zerlin Streiffer (Richard), six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Betty Zerlin Zelman (Louis) and his sister-in-law, Helen Goldberg Zerlin Sperling.

Graveside services were held on Wednesday, October 19, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at Gates of Prayer Cemetery, 1428 Joseph Street. Rabbi Robert Loewy officiated.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Gates of Prayer Synagogue, 4000 W. Esplanade Ave., Metairie, LA 70002 or the charity of your choice. Tharp-Sontheimer-Tharp Funeral Home of Metairie was in charge of arrangements. Condolences may be expressed online here.
