Nat Barrett dies of COVID-19 at 94
NATHAN “NAT” BARRETT, a New Orleans native, who lived his entire life in the city he loved, passed away peacefully on Tuesday afternoon, August 4, 2020 of COVID-19 at East Jefferson Hospital. He was 94.
Barrett was a graduate of Francis T. Nicholls High School and attended Louisiana State University. He later joined the U.S. Navy and returned home to marry and raise his family.
He enjoyed traveling with his wife, Neona Barrett, until the time of her passing on Twelfth Night, 1981.
He enjoyed spending time at the East Jefferson Wellness Center with his friends where he enjoyed exercising and swimming. Barrett gave up swimming during his seventies, but then took up walking along a track with friends or his son Gary.
Barrett was a lover of sports and a major supporter of LSU and the New Orleans Saints.loved all sports and was a big fan of LSU and the New Orleans Saints.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Neona Barrett, who passed away January 6, 1981
He is survived by his two sons, Gary M. Barrett of Houston andWayne Barrett (Eve) as well as three grandchildren.
Graveside services were held on Thursday, August 6, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at Hebrew Rest Cemetery No. 3, 2100 Pelopidas Street. Temple Sinai Senior Rabbi Daniel Sherman officiated. Arrangements were by Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home.
