New Orleans Jewish community invited to attend vigil at Shir Chadash

Members of the New Orleans Jewish community and the greater community-at-large are invited to a community vigil to honor the memory of the victims of the shooting in Pittsburgh at Tree of Life Synagogue. The attack on Saturday, the worst against the Jewish community in the history of the U.S., left 11 dead and six injured, two critically.

Four of the six injured were police officers or members of the responding SWAT team. One of the police offices injured was released on Saturday evening from the hospital where he was treated for gunshot wounds to his extremities.

The vigil will be held at Shir Chadash Conservative Congregation, 3700 West Esplanade Avenue in Metairie, at 5:00 p.m.

The event is being organized by Shir Chadash Rabbi Deborah Silver along with her fellow Metairie clergy, Reform Rabbi David Gerber of Congregation Gates of Prayer and Orthodox Rabbi Gabriel Greenberg of Congregation Beth Israel.

“We will gather as one Jewish community to mourn the loss of lives in Pittsburgh and to support each other as we move forward,” read the official invitation.
