Politico and civic organizer Joel Myers passes away; memorial on Sunday

JOEL GROSSMAN MYERS, a well-known political organizer and past president of the League of Women Voters in New Orleans, died yesterday, August 8, 2019.

A New Orleans native, she worked on various political campaigns and was a champion for several civic causes. Myers also engaged in economic research to complement her political work and action.

Myers received a master’s degree from Tulane University in 1971. She donated her family’s papers, photographs and letters to the Manuscripts Collection at Tulane in 1991. Some of these historical documents dated back to the late Nineteenth Century, but the collection also contained more recent writings from World War II penned by her father and grandfather before him.

She was married to her husband, Dr Bert Myers since 1954. She is also survived by her children
Melanie Bronfin (Danny), Eve Herman, and Brad Myers (Bernita).

Memorial services were held in the Fiebelman Chapel at Temple Sinai, 6227 St. Charles Avenue, on Sunday, August 11 at 4:00 p.m. 

Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
