Retired optometrist Harold Cohen expires in Mobile
Harold Sobel Cohen, a retired optometrist and native of New Orleans, but who practiced most of his life in Mobile, died October 1. He was 86. Cohen was known for his solid support of the state of Israel and was a tireless campaigner over the Internet promoting issues he felt of importance to all of Jewry. He attended Rugby Academy and earned a bachelor’s degree from Louisiana State University. He served two years during World War II with the U.S. Navy and later graduated from the Southern College of Optometry. He relocated to Mobile and met his future wife, the late Edith (née Rubin). Cohen practiced optometry for 47 years before retiring well over a decade ago. The Cohens made many trips to New Orleans and enjoyed seeing old friends on a regular basis. Those trips became less frequent following the passing of his wife. Cohen is survived by his daughter Carole Adrian of New York City.
