Lynn Strauss, mother of Toni Weiss
LYNN SHARON STRAUSS, an office consultant to medical practices specialized in computerized record keeping in the Tuscon, AZ area, died January 11 after a lengthy battle with lung cancer at the Christus Schumpert Hospice (and Grace Home) in Shreveport surrounded by family members. She was 76.
An active gardener who also enjoyed traveling abroad, Strauss spent most of her life living in Tuscon until the ravages of her disease forced her to relocate to be with her daughter Vona Weiss in Shreveport, LA. She was active at Congregation Anshei Israel, which she joined in 1975. She was elected as secretary-treasurer of the board of trustees and served as a member of the board of trustees for many years. Strauss was noted for her major fundraising efforts and donated most of the money for a youth organization room at the synagogue.
She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Kurt Strauss, daughters Toni Weiss (Gary Remer) of New Orleans and Vona Weiss (Jeff) of Shreveport, four grandsons, three granddaughters and one great-granddaughter. Services were held on Sunday, January 13 at Rose-Neath Marshall Street Chapel in Shreveport.
Toni Weiss will be observing the shiva period at her residence in New Orleans. Rabbi David Polsky of Congregation Anshe Sfard is coordinating morning minyan worship services tomorrow through Friday, January 18 at 7:00 a.m., while afternoon and evening services are being coordinated by Rabbi Ethan Linden of Shir Chadash Conservative Congregation at 5:00 p.m., beginning tonight and continuing through Thursday, January 17.
