NASA engineer Bernard ‘Woody’ Widofsky services at Touro on Thurs.
BERNARD “WOODY” WIDOFSKY passed away peacefully in his sleep at The Sanctuary at Passages on Sunday, March 27, 2022. He was 85.
Widofsky had a full and distinguished career as an engineer, specializing in heat transfer. Highly respected by his colleagues, he worked on a great number of projects at the National Aeronautics and Space Agency’s (NASA) Michoud Space Facility including the Space Shuttle program,
He was a longtime member of Touro Synagogue in New Orleans, regularly attended worship services and was active in the Touro Brotherhood. Widofsky was a founding member of the synagogue choir. He was well loved and respected as a devoted and talented teacher in Touro’s Religious School for more than 30 years. He was an active member of the Torah Study group where he was known as a devoted scholar of Torah. Recently, in February, he was overjoyed to participate in his granddaughter bat mitzvah.
A native of Patterson, New Jersey, Widowsky loved living in New Orleans and the South. However, he was very proud of his family and enjoyed celebrating their accomplishments over the years and took every opportunity to visit with them at their residence in Manchester, Connecticut.
Widowsky had a great love of travel, especially driving trips. He most recently visited the Grand Tetons, Yellowstone National Park, and Glacier National Park, following an enjoyable riverboat cruise down the Columbia River.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Joyce Goodwin Widofsky, and is survived by his son, Edward James Widofsky (Macola) and three grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Arnold Widofsky (Gail), a sister-in-law, Gail Widofsky and a companion, Allison Clark.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral service at Touro Synagogue, 4238 St. Charles Avenue, New Orleans, on Thursday March 31, 2022 at 12:00 p.m. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Rabbi Katie Bauman will officiate. Burial will follow in Hebrew Rest Cemetery No. 3. Frenchmen at Pelopidas Streets.
