Babette Neuwirth, former resident of Peoria
BABETTE “BOBBY” DESSAUER NEUWIRTH, a resident at the Vista Shores Assisted Living facility, died Sunday, June 16. Neuwirth, who moved to New Orleans in 2006 was 96 years old.
Neuwirth was born in Ft. Wayne, IN and enrolled at Northwestern University in Evanston, IL. While there, she was active in student government and was inducted as a member of Alpha Epsilon Phi sorority. At the time of her graduation with a bachelor’s degree in psychology, she was inducted into the Mortar Board Honor Society. She was still involved as a member of the Northwestern University reunion committee.
While married and living in Peoria, IL, Neuwirth was a noted volunteer and served on the boards of many community organizations there. She was also an active sisterhood member at Congregation Anshai Emeth there.
Neuwirth is survived by a daughter, Cindy Rittenberg (Leon, Jr.). Her son, James D. Neuwirth, predeceased her. she is also survived by three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
A graveside service was conducted by a family member at Hebrew Rest Cemetery #3 on Frenchmen Street at Pelopidas Street, at 1:00 p.m on Wednesday, June 19.
