Artist Alan Gerson featured in new Lemieux Galleries show
Artist Alan Gerson, whose creative work has been featured at the New Orleans Museum of Art, shown at local art galleries and whose illustrations graced his mother Sylvia Gerson’s and Mildred Covert’s many published Jewish cookbooks, is taking part in a new show titled “Water Water Everywhere” at Lemieux Gallery, 332 Julia Street.
Gerson has two oil works on panels such as “Ancient Sea II,” seen at left, which capture his own take on the undersea world.
Christy Wood, the co-director of the gallery, curated the works in “Water Water Everywhere,” which encompasses over 30 works by 24 artists working in a variety of mixed-media, photography, sculpture and traditional painting.
Wood chose the work to identify what she defines as “crucial issues” related to water. Ten percent of the gross proceeds will benefit water.org, a non-profit worldwide organization that brings potable drinking water to remote villages and other locations.
(Editor’s note: Artist Alan Gerson is a cousin of CCJN editor Alan Smason and CCJN marketing and advertising director Arlene S. Wieder.)
