Slidell Little Theatre presents ‘Fiddler on the Roof’

It’s been 50 years since the debut of “Fiddler on the Roof,” one of the most beloved of musicals to ever open on the Great White Way. Slidell Little Theatre plans to celebrate the anniversary by presenting a new production of the classic show that opens this weekend.

With music by Jerry Boch and lyrics by Sheldon Harnick and a book by Joseph Stein, “Fiddler on the Roof” set Broadway box office records that stood for many years. A winner of 10 Tony Awards including Best Musical, “Fiddler on the Roof” is based on the stories of Sholom Aleichem about Tevye, a milkman, his wife Golde and his many daughters.

Among the songs that explore life in the small Russian town of Anatevka are “If I Were a Rich Man,” “Sunrise, Sunset,” “Miracle of Miracles,” “Far from the Home I Love,” and the powerful opening number “Tradition.”

The show opens tonight and runs on Friday and Saturday nights with matinees on Sunday through September 7.

Slidell Little Theatre is located at 2024 Nellie Drive in Slidell. Friday and Saturday show times are at 8:00 p.m, while Sunday matinees begin at 2:00 p.m. For more information, call 985-641-0324.
