Coffee trader Trevor Dreyfus’ memorial set for Tuesday night

TREVOR JAMES DREYFUS,  an international coffee trader for Louis Dreyfus Commodities who made New Orleans his home for the past three years, passed away on October 27, 2015. A service was held in his hometown of Kirkwood, MO. on Sat., Oct. 31. He was 32 years old.

Fluent in both Spanish and Portuguese, Dreyfus traveled frequently to both Central and South America as part of his business as well as for his own personal explorations.

An accomplished athlete, he loved spending time sailing, kayaking or just being with nature. He particularly was fond if he could share these endeavors with family and friends. Dreyfus proudly earned an International Pilot’s License for sailing.

Dreyfus attended Mary Institute and St. Louis County Day School, where he achieved top honors, was a national merit finalist and served as senior class president. He entered the College of William and Mary, where he double majored in International Relations and Economics and minored in Hispanic Studies, graduating magna cum laude.

After graduation, he was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship, traveling to Ecuador,  where he studied the effects of official currency dollarization on the economy of Ecuador. Dreyfus was also hired to work at the U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC) as an honors paralegal in the Bureau of Competition.

During a six-month leave of absence from the FTC, Dreyfus worked for the Eye of the World, an educational non-profit organization in which he and 2 other crew members sailed from Virginia to the Galapagos Islands. During this sailing trek, he was a logistics specialist, providing social studies lessons via streaming video to middle school classrooms throughout the U.S.

Dreyfus later attended the London School of Economics, graduating with merit with a Masters of Science degree in International Political Economy.

Although he was not a member, Dreyfus regularly attended worship services at Congregation Anshe Sfard on an ongoing basis. A memorial service was held in his honor on Tuesday evening, Nov. 3, at the synagogue.

Dreyfus is survived by his parents, Dan and Denise Maue Dreyfus, his brother, Nathan Thomas Maue Dreyfus, and grandparents, all of Kirkwood.
