Funeral service for Beverly Cohen, matriarch and purveyor of rare coins and weapons, will be Sunday

BEVERLY STECKLER COHEN, a principal in the firm James A. Cohen and Sons, merchants of rare coins and purveyors of collectible and rare weapons, passed away on Friday, September 5, 2025. She was 98.

She ran the store for many years with her husband and two sons on Royal Street in a location opposite the present location of the Louisiana Supreme Court. 

She was predeceased by her husband of many years in 2017 and is survived by her two sons Stephen Cohen (Julie) and Jerry Cohen, two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

A funeral service was held on Sunday, September 7, 2025,  at 11:30am at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. Congregation Gates of Prayer Rabbi David Gerber conducted the funeral service. Interment followed at Beth Israel Cemetery #2, 4321 Frenchman Street, New Orleans, officiated by Chabad of Metairie Rabbi Yossie Nemes.

A shiva minyan was later held at the home of Julie and Stephen Cohen in Metairie.
