Gates of Prayer announces $1M education grant from Peter Newhouse

Congregation Gates of Prayer, the Reform Jewish sanctuary in Metairie, announced on Friday what they called a “transformational” gift for education at all levels from Peter Newhouse, a member of the family whose Advance Publications formerly held the Times-Picayune.

The commitment from Newhouse was for $1,000,000 to bolster Jewish education at the synagogue including the Preschool, Religious School and adult education.

Today, we are honored to announce a historic milestone that secures that legacy for generations to come,” wrote Dan Forman, president of the Gates of Prayer board, and Mary DeLucca, director of the Louise Hayem Manheim Gates of Prayer Preschool.

“We know that the past year brought a season of transition for our preschool,” they continued. “Change is never easy, but under the guidance of our new leadership and board, we have worked tirelessly to strengthen our foundation.”

“Mr. Newhouse’s gift is not just a donation; it is a profound vote of confidence in the new direction of our school and the integrity of our educational mission. It ensures that Gates of Prayer remains a beacon of Jewish learning and academic excellence for everyone- starting with our youngest students.”
