This edition is dedicated to the memory of my dear mother, who recently departed this world at the age of ninety. 

Much of what I write about today -- a mother’s quiet strength, her nurturing presence, and the power of love expressed through small acts -- was lived by mother every day of her life. She also had a wonderful sense of humor, often wrapping wisdom in wit. You’ll find one of her favorite sayings in the quotes that follow.
