Smason, who heads the Webinar Committee for the AJPA, was given the award by AJPA Marshall Weiss for his volunteer work with the group, the largest association of Jewish press in the U.S. and Canada.

Another recipient of the award was Kevin Adelstein, the co-chair of this year’s conference and the CEO-publisher of the Cleveland Jewish News, who celebrated a 50th anniversary this year. The AJPA also celebrated its 70th anniversary along with Hadassah Magazine, one of its members.

The presentations were made just prior to the announcements for the 2014 Rockower Awards for excellence in Jewish journalism.

The AJPA is holding its conference in Maryland this year for the first time in association with the Jewish Federations of North America’s General Assembly.
