In the northern part of the Gaza Strip, adjacent to Kibbutz Zikim, the army said that “five terrorists tried to damage security infrastructure … which exploded, and as a result, a number of terrorists were injured.”

An hour or so before that incident, Palestinian sources said that Israel Defense Force (IDF) troops shot and killed a 24-year-old man who had tried to cross the border fence in the area between Shuja’iyya and Kibbutz Nahal Oz.

The incidents occurred on the heels of an IDF attack earlier in the day on nine Hamas terror targets in Gaza in response to the ongoing rash of fire kites and explosive balloons being launched over the border. Dozens of acres of Gaza Belt farmland have been burned in the ensuing fires.

Following the IDF’s attack, “code red” sirens were heard in Israeli communities near the Gaza border, when three rockets were launched from Gaza into Israel. No damage was reported, although the military said that soldiers had fired warning shots fired near groups responsible for the fire kites, and moved to destroy the infrastructure used by those groups.
